This home has the closet and ensuite of my dreams. A curbless entry shower, private toilet room, and a closet that goes on for days!
That dresser island is to die for!
Modern homes are about the lines and massing blocks, and this home is no different.
The low slope roof will almost disappear in real-life view leaving the band of roof line capping off the top.
Materials are carefully placed so they are in large massing groups to differentiate between parts of the building.
The fun thing about modern is that the traditional rules are meant to be broken!
Mixing materials is my jam. You can create texture, highlight certain areas of your home or push other areas to the background.
You could also obtain the same effect by mixing colours.
This house is a bit of both:
The darker portion of the second floor masks it and allows the main peak to be the star. Adding in the wood columns on the porch gives the house warmth and another deep, rich colour to play off of the other elements.
Building a new home gives you an opportunity to get everything you ever wanted in a home.
This homeowner’s dream was to have a closet that is worthy of magazines.
This closet is going to be chock full of LED lighting, glass displays and luxurious millwork.
The extra bonus? The closet is on display to the hall as well rather than being tucked away in a your-eyes-only kind of way.
I recently had the pleasure of working on a one-storey home where the homeowners wanted a contemporary style. If you’ve been going through my posts, you’ll know that traditional style is my forte, but I wasn’t going to pass up the chance to stretch my creativity.
My favourite parts are the mix of materials, the super thick fascia, and the banding effect under the soffit.
Excited to see this one go up!
You know what’s great about corner lots? Besides the extra windows and one less neighbour?
Wrap-around porches.
You don’t see wrap-around porches in city lots, which is a shame when the farmhouse look is making a comeback.
This house took it and ran with it, making two front facades, one facing each road.
This house is going to look like it’s been there forever and the rest of the subdivision built up around it. Now that’s standing the test of time.
Hey I get it, everyone loves a grand open space. Two storey ceilings are desired in 99% of the homes we design.
But, hear me out.
Smaller rooms like this den can create a feeling of coziness that large spaces just can’t touch. It’s like being a swaddled baby! A room that is just large enough for the furniture to be tucked against the wall, a plush carpet underfoot, and natural light streaming in. Plus a fireplace? Chef’s kiss.
Just through those doors is the great room with the tall ceiling. It’s the best of both worlds!
You know what’s great about this home’s curb appeal?
The way that it could fit in amongst the trees of a country lot, or within the formality of a city property.
Truly a flexible facade!
Ugh, can all houses just come standard with a screened-in porch already?
Watching storms roll in, taking a weekend summer nap, bundling up in a bajillion blankets and hanging out while the snow falls in slow-motion, all without spiders or mosquitoes. That is living the dream right there!
